Israel killed 54 Gazans in airstrikes on the Al-Mawasi area, which the Israeli military calls on the Gaza population to evacuate daily, confirmed Zaher al Waheidi, director of the Ministry of Health unit responsible for counting the deceased.

“Nasser Hospital received 54 bodies,” the official noted. This hospital is the main medical center in Khan Yunis (southern Gaza), a city adjacent to the Mawasi beaches and entirely under Israeli military evacuation orders.

Sources at Nasser Hospital reported that Israel struck 13 tents in this coastal area, where approximately 425,000 displaced Gazans have been crowded for months, according to the United Nations.

Although since May 2024 Netanyahu’s regime had designated these beaches as a “safe area,” they were subjected to regular bombings. However, the population is still directed there when evacuation orders are issued.

Between March 18, when the aggression in Gaza resumed, and June 16, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recorded 380 deaths in Mawasi, including 158 women and children.

This coastal area covers about 8.9 square kilometers and currently has a population density of approximately 48,000 people per square kilometer. At its narrowest point, the distance between the sea and what Israel considers a combat zone is about 540 meters.

“Before the war, Gaza was already one of the most densely populated areas on Earth, with about 5,500 people per square kilometer” throughout the enclave, according to a UN report dated June 30.
